Great Job Everyone!

My name is Emanuel Arboleda. I am an Elementary Music teacher here in Naugatuck, and an instructor for the NHS Marching Band. Last year, City Hill became home to the first ever CHMS SoundSport. SoundSport is an activity that puts music in motion. Essentially, members learn and memorize songs on their instruments that are relevant to a theme, and then add choreography and visual formations. The combination of music and movement brings a new and unique approach to performance at CHMS.

With the help of CHMS Band Director Kathy Dravis, and NHS Band Director Robert Hughes, we began rehearsing in February and continued to rehearse weekly until April. By the second rehearsal, the membership grew from seven to nineteen members and maintained throughout the season. Our debut performance, the NHS Friends and Family Night, was a great success. As a result, SoundSport was featured on the Naugatuck Patch the following day.

I am happy to announce that SoundSport will be returning for the 2015-2016 school year!

What’s new?

-SoundSport will now be offered to 6th graders as well as CHMS students

-We will rehearse every Thursday 2:30pm-4pm so long as school is in session that day. (Snow days/holidays = no rehearsal)

Parents are highly encouraged to make appearances at rehearsals. The more support, the better!

See you there!

Mr. A

SoundSport Director

My name is Nancy Plourde & I’m the president of the NHS Greyhound Band Parent Association.

The primary function of the Greyhound Band Parent Association is to be a support system for the band director & instructional staff.

We are there to help with first aid, snacks, uniforms etc.

We also handle fundraising for the band as well as helping to move equipment.

We always try to have at least one parent at rehearsal to help in the event that someone needs first aid or a button sewn or a hair tie. At each rehearsal, we provide snacks for the band students.

On a show day, we are in the band room to help with uniforms, helmets & loading the truck. We have several people in our crew that bring the props on the field & help with the pit equipment at competitions. When we’re at a competition, we are also there to chaperone the students while they’re watching the other bands perform.

I truly enjoy helping with the kids. They really appreciate the help we provide them & there’s nothing like hearing “hi mom” from 75 kids!

Please take the time to help with SoundSport, you won’t regret it!

Thank you,

Nancy Plourde
