Ms. Schweiger completed her undergraduate education at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA. She earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree with a concentration in vocal music. She earned a Master of Music Education degree from Boston University with a final project concentration in curriculum development. She anticipates returning to school to continue her education with a final goal of earning a second Masters degree in curriculum development or educational leadership.
Ms. Schweiger began taking piano lessons at age seven, followed by oboe lessons at age nine, and voice lessons in high school. Her love of music grew in college, where she sang in the Concert Chorale, Chapel Choir, Opera Company, and coed a cappella group at Bucknell University.
She began her middle school teaching career at Hillside Middle School, where she taught general music and chorus to grades 6-8. Over the past several years, with Hillside as her “home school,” she has taught at Salem School, Central Avenue School, Western School, and Andrew Avenue School. This year, she has returned to Hillside School full time and teaches grades 5-6 general music and chorus.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Schweiger sings professionally for weddings, memorial services, and choirs. She has experience performing all styles of music, but especially enjoys singing Jazz, Gospel, and multi-cultural music.
Ms. Schweiger grew up in Avon, CT and enjoyed an education filled with academics, music, and theater. She attended Bucknell University and took a great interest in music, theater, and conducting.
In addition to teaching and performing music, Ms. Schweiger enjoys baking, reading, hiking, swimming, and long-distance running. She has completed nine marathons and plans to run many races this year.
